Samantha had the opportunity to put some questions about the festival to Steve Glasscock, singer with the opening act Legacy, who kick things off for us on the Friday evening at 7pm…..
You have played Festival in The Park previously…Tell us what is special about it?
I moved into the area around 10yrs ago and one of my first experience’s in Ashford was to come to Festival in The Park. From then I wanted to perform there. This will be my third appearance at this Event.
The Festival creates a special atmosphere, its Child Friendly and there are plenty of Stalls that support it.
Being the opening act of not only the festival, but the Martin Judd stage, must be a big honour for you all?
Of course it’s a MASSIVE honour for us.Martin promised to be back when interviewed last year and the creation of The Martin Judd Stage will serve as a reminder of his contribution to the local Music Community. We were given the option to chose our performance time and opening the Festival on this particular occasion just felt “right”.
Martin was a huge part of your lives and his Legacy has lived on in many ways. How do you think Martin would feel about the Friday night being dedicated to him and all he did for the local music scene?
Speaking personally, I think He would Love it !.
Playing Music with Him over the time he was unwell put a perspective on so many things. And it certainly affected the individual Band members in one way or another. We continue to Smile,Laugh,Wind each other up at every opportunity ! ….. As well as perform to the best of our ability.Martin would accept nothing less.
The festival’s ethos is to nurture and promote local performing arts in many forms. How important is it that children are exposed to live, local music and the arts?
Having worked with Children in the Education System with severe Social/ Emotional/Behavioural difficulties for the last 16 years, I’ve seen first-hand what Music and the Arts can do. As a form of self-expression, it nurtures Confidence which, in turn creates greater self-esteem.
This is the Festivals 11th year! As a local band do you feel it is important to have this kind of event available to our local community?
Of course….it’s essential to the local community as a social Event. Many young Bands get a chance to play. Its a celebration of the Music scene in the area.
Finally, what can we expect from the Legacy performance at this year’s festival
No ego’s….No Feet on Monitors….just a group of true friends Smiling, Laughing ….Remembering our Leader…..
