As you may be aware the Festival is made up of a hard working team of volunteers, local businesses and performers. The performers need somewhere to perform, a place to prepare for their performance, a team to help manoeuvre musical instruments and amps, a team to supply extreme precision stage management ensuring a seamless flow of entertainment. If it was not for these guys, all of the previous mentioned could not happen.

The Castle Inc Crew have been involved with the Festival from the beginning 11 years ago. The team start helping build the stage and fenced areas a few days before the festival begins, and then take it all down again once it has finished. They work tirelessly over the weekend to make sure everything is just right, and the Festival cannot thank them enough for everything they do. The Festival wants to extend their gratitude for their hard work, and we cannot wait to be working with them again this year.

I caught up with the Crew and posed a few questions to them about their service and involvement with the Festival.

So you guys have helped out at the Festival before, how long have you been involved and why?

Having worked with Edward for many years, when he asked us to help out with the very first festival, we jumped at the chance. So we have been involved since the very first festival, 11 years ago.

For people that have not heard about Castle Inc tell us a bit more about the services you provide?

In keeping with our motto, ‘Keepin it Live!’, we actively support and promote live music in the Ashford Area, as we have done for the past 30 years! Most of you will remember The Castle Public House, which has been gone 20 years, which moulded everyone! Great Times were had there, the music was legendary, so we are just trying to carry that on through Castle Inc. It moulded our lives, so we need to mould the future through Live Music.

The festival’s ethos is to nurture and promote local performing arts in many forms. How important is it that children are exposed to live, local music and the arts?

Very important! The young talent locally is immense! There are some great up and coming musicians out there that need exposure, and Edward offers that opportunity, which is fantastic.

Finally….This is the Festival’s 11th year! As a local stage crew how important is it that the community has this Festival available to them?

Ashford Festival In The Park has always been for the community. There is something for everyone, such diversity, catering for all musical tastes. 11 years and still going strong says a lot! Look forward to the next 11 years!
